2019 Bottlemart Smiddy Challenge Day 8 - Mundubbera to Yarraman

We spent last night at the Three Rivers Caravan Park and the Mundubbera Motel across the road. Everyone slept very well.

Our dinner was provided by the Mundubbera Rotary Club and Sherrie from the caravan park. The food was sensational, and the company just as good.

We welcomed Kerrie and Emily from Allsports to help keep us cyclists on our bikes.
As we enjoyed dinner, $130 was donated by guests of the caravan park. We heard many speeches from members of Team Smiddy during the evening also.

The blog for day seven was written and read aloud by Janet and Stemmy, who provided ann amusing rundown of the previous day..

We discovered Jenny had been keeping a secret stash of liquorice slice and Melting Moments. These sweet treats, along with the coconut ice made by Denise Barnet, were auctioned.  Jenny thought she might raise an extra $50 towards the total fundraising, and was blown away when the total raised for the two trays of liquorice slice and a mixed tray of sweets was more than $600; a very generous crowd with a sweet tooth.

Scott Carpenter shared with us why he finally got his act into gear and joined a Smiddy Challenge. He told us about the special people he has lost to cancer, and encouraged people to complete bowel cancer tests and check the tan lines on their legs for melanoma. He also talked about the close call his own daughter had with a benign cyst and its radical treatment.
Wendy and Krista presented the category jersey to Tim Dalton. Tim is proud to be a part of Team Smiddy, and is equally as proud to wear the jersey.

Mal spoke on behalf of rotary and thanked Smiling for Smiddy for staying in Mundubbera.
And on behalf of Team Smiddy, we thank you, Mundubbera Motel, and Sherrie, for helping with our laundry.

After a sound night’s sleep, a fantastic breakfast, courtesy of the rotary club, was enjoyed by all.
Conversations had overbreakfast revealed a common jealousy among the group ofour photographer Millie, who proves the theory that Asian women look heaps younger than they really are, as we all thought she was about 18.

In other news, Lance shared his personal preference for straight bananas, as they ‘go in easier; than  bent ones.

Professor Gabrielli said that he enjoyed the lasagne the first time, but not so much the next 30 times as it repeated on him.

Scott Carpenter thinks that the mountains aren’t as tall for him as his bike is taller than most. I guess it’s all about averages.

Kevvy started the day with his lights not working, so he thought giving them a rub might get them revved up.

On the first hill, Habo let rip a massive fart right into Amanda, who wasn’t terribly impressed.  She then ensured the favour was returned.

We passed the big Mandarin and were amused by the microwave letterbox we spotted.
Lachie returned to the dusty club for the fourth time, and David Quaille did a matrix style landing in the ditch when he clipped someone’s wheel.

Shortly after that, Joe joined the bitumen club after going nine rounds with a kangaroo (or a piece of fruit).  A check-up followed and Joe was told there were no breaks.
Dave was our new police officer today, joining Copey. We loved having them along for the ride, keeping us safe and blocking the traffic.

Imogen accidently flushed Krista’s glove down the toilet at Kingaroy.

Morning tea was a huge success, enjoyed in a gravel paddock. Following this pit-stop, we were once again given a generous donation by passers-by.

Killer was busted trying to hitch a lift with the lead vehicle.

We held a barbecue lunch in honour of Michelle Herlaar, who couldn’t be with us due to family illness.  The steak and salad dishes went down a real treat, and Michelle would have been proud of us and the meals that were presented.

After lunch, everyone loved riding on the Rail Trail; I am told it was a bit rough but fun.
Afternoon tea was provided by Mark in Nanango, a long-time supporter of Smiling for Smiddy. Everyone loved catching up there, and the treats from the local bakery were terrific. Everyone was concerned that Cheryl was unwell this afternoon, and our thoughts were with her.

At the end of day eight, we all settled in into Yarraman Gardens and the neighbouring caravan park, and were looking forward to enjoying another great dinner.
